(The research direction is the spatio-temporal data analysis and its application in geography and environment, e.g., applied mathematics and statistics focusing on time series analysis and the application in analysis of the geographical and environmental data from the interdisciplinary perspective. These research problems stem from the real-life problems and important in both theory and application. Particularly, my recent interests are in applying the developed methods to solve the important real-life problems. I have established stable and long-term collaboration with many institutions with well-built national and international reputation.
I plan to build a research team with interdisciplinary background, for example in mathematics, statistics or others focusing on quantitative analysis.)

(Selected Papers):
1. In the pipeline.
2. Feng Chen, Yu Zhou* and Yee Leung, 2025, Testing non-stationarity of spatial relationships under the multiscale effects. (We propose a new residual-based bootstrap test specifically designed to evaluate the non-stationarity of MGWR coefficients while explicitly accounting for multiscale effects to address one of the core methodological challenges in spatial analysis: how to rigorously test the non-stationarity of spatial relationships when geographical processes operate at multiple spatial scales.)
3. Ewan T. Phillips, Marc Höll, Holger Kantz and Yu Zhou*, 2023, Trend analysis in the presence of short- and long-range correlations with application to regional warming. (We obtain an unified formula to systematically decipher the effect of autocorrelation on trend detection via analytically derivation. Practically, this formula can explicitly describe the interaction between long-rang and short-rang correlations and includes all existing results.)
4. Yu Zhou, Yee Leung* and Wen-Bin Zhang, 2021, A location-and-form-based distance for geographical analysis. (We highlight the importance of the effect of form of geographical objects in analysis and accordingly develop a combined distance to comprehensively consider this effect, based on which a general analytical framework for geographical analysis with consideration of the form effect has been initialized.)
5. Marc Höll, Holger Kantz and Yu Zhou*, 2016, Detrended fluctuation analysis and the difference between external drifts and intrinsic diffusionlike nonstationarity.
(We reveal via analytical derivation the critical role of the detrending step in detrended fluctuation analysis [DFA], which is one of the most popular methods in long-range correlation analysis of non-stationary time series. On the basis of this revealed role, we further propose the working principle of DFA.)
